Practical information

1.    What is a trekking like?
The group walks with the guide. The mules (or camels, depending on the region) carry the luggage and all the camping gear: tents, water, mattresses, kitchen equipment, food… You walk easily and in complete freedom, carrying only a small backpack with your daily water need, camera, scarf,…

The group leaves after a good breakfast, at about 8 or 9 am. The mule drivers welcome you around noon with the traditional tea followed by a balanced lunch and a well-deserved nap.

In the afternoon, after 2 or 3 hours of walking, the group arrives at the bivouac location where a snack is served (with tea of course). This is followed by free time, to enjoy the view, meet some locals, read a book or just “dust off”.

A hot meal is served in the evening under the stars or in a “mess” tent, depending on the weather. The evening is always a very friendly moment, animated by music or songs.

2.    Meal, water

Our cooks will take very good care of you. You can be sure to enjoy copious breakfasts, tasty locally cooked meals made with fresh ingredients and snacks in the afternoon.

We supply bread, vegetables and other ingredients. We use water from a drinkable well, and we purify it. At the start of the trek, you have the opportunity to buy mineral water to fill your drinking bottles if you wish. The bottles are carried by the mules (or camels).

Our team might, under certain circumstances, be able to offer you to buy a goat from a family, which can complement your meals.

3.    What should you take with you ?

•    A flexible frameless bag for your luggage. Please limit it to 15 kg. All the things you don’t need during the trekking can be left at the departure hostel (no valuable goods).
•    A small backpack for your daily needs: drinking bottle, sunscreen, sunglasses, toilet paper (and matches to burn it), pocket knife, scarf or sunhat.
•    A sleeping bag
•    Good walking shoes
•    A flashlight
•    Water shoes or sandals to walk in the rivers or on the sand
•    Water purifiers (tablets or pump) if you decide not to buy mineral water

4.    Insurance

We don’t cover medical care, hospitalisation and repatriation in case of accident or illness during the trek.

All participants must have a valid passport and a personal hospitalisation and repatriation insurance, the details of which we will ask you to fill on a form you will have to sign before the start of the trek.

This will ensure we have all the necessary information in case of need.
